Disheartening news today. We called up Coonskin’s to check on whether one of the lady Maine coons were pregnant and she still wasn’t. The breeder also told us her kittens were pricey ($1500-$2000) and that she would give breeders a first pick. Perhaps her cats won so many awards lately they are getting a bit high in demand. Who knows. We also called degoonacoons and we caught her in the middle of delivering kittens! We must call back in 2-3 days she says. Hopefully she has the right colors and two males and we can talk her out of the raw diet requirement. Never knew getting kittens can get this difficult.
Since we are still catless with no kitten visits available to us anytime soon, we will once again stalk the cats and kittens at the monthly cat show. I hope Mr. Kite will be there.
A little update on our cat hunting log. We spoke with Degoonacoon and her kittens are now 2 weeks old! She also does have two brown males. The only thing keeping us from jumping on her kittens is still her raw meat requirement. I believe a visit and long chat is in order.
Meanwhile, Coonskin’s Mr. Kite is definitely going to be dad come October. Unfortunately, only the torbie colored female is pregnant and not the brown/white that we were hoping for. I wish we weren’t so picky on colors but we aren’t too used to torbies. Here’s crossing our fingers for two male brown and white tabbies from the litter. We would also have to wait until February to be able to take any of Mister Kite’s kittens.
Baba from Vaskebjorn’s Maine Coon Cattery attempts to go on the cat wheel. Baba falls asleep on the cat wheel. So typical of cats hehe! Check out his two white left front toes. That’s how you will always know it’s Baba.
Oh sigh. Word is, the wait for kitties is even longer now. After reading up on raw food diets, mother decided we couldn’t deal with hungry Maine Coons tearing and dragging raw meat all over the carpet. There goes the anticipated visit to DeGoonacoon’s to meet her lovely red boy and possible newborn kittens that were due today. Unless there are other feeding options, we will have to wait for the wonderful Mr. Kite’s kittens possibly due in October.
Speaking of Mr. Kite, I went looking at Coonskin Maine Coon’s website again and clicked over to her links section and found TabbeyRd Maine Coons in NY. On their show cat section was no other than a younger Mr. Kite! We were so happy to see more pictures of him and we giddily noticed that his mother, Ob La Di, and father, I Am The Walrus, looked a lot like him (extremely regal and cute faced). Here is what we gawking over:

We also noticed he had the stripes down his back like our beloved Smokey when he was a kitten. The pattern is probably typical of the classic tabby, but we loved it because it only showed when their fur was shorter, and it made them look like a watermelon.
Their kittens page nearly killed us, and we fell in love with almost all of their sires and dams. I think other than the wait, we really would love Mr. Kite’s kittens. Too bad there is no kitten dance to make them grow faster.
Stalking them on YouTube now, I found a video of the purry mister Walrus himself:
Here is a video of Walrus:
And finally, the last video I found was of Coonskin’s Olmsted and Bling when they were 13 weeks old. Super cute chatterbugs!
Days are not as lively when the maine coon webcams are down at Vaskebjorn in the Netherlands. How we love to watch their kitties and kitties’ aunties and grandmas. In case anyone tried the link to view the cool catwheel from my last post and found it dead, this is why. The wonderful folks at Vaskebjorn Maine Coons had this on their blog: “8/29/2010
Hi everyone,
The lightning struck, so no tv, no internet, no landline and no cooking. Its all fried.”
Anneke never ceases to make me laugh. It really does sound like her kitten, Tuk Tuk, talking too.
I’ve heard of hamster wheels, but I have never heard of a cat wheel. The wonderful folks at Vaskebjorn Maine Coons in the Netherlands have one such wheel for their cat’s amusement. They do actually enjoy going on it for several minutes many times a day! It’s quite adorable, and you can actually view it 24/7 on a webcam and see if a cat was running it at the moment. Here is the link with username ‘user’ and password ‘user’ http://77.251.215.173:8005/
Night time is even more interesting. You see the video as if you had night vision goggles.
We finally got a hold of Calimaine, but to our and her surprise, her female luissa only gave birth to one kitten! Since we wanted two boys and there was one person ahead of us, we most likely would not be getting our kitten right now.
Alex from degoonacoon also emailed us recently to let us know she was expecting kittens on Monday, and her big red 2 year old, Cudahy, was still available if we decided to feed the raw meat diet.
We also liked Coonskin’s Mr. Kite so much, but we’d have to wait until next week to find out if the female was indeed pregnant. (and until October to adopt kittens!)
My mother would be the one to have to decide. I wonder which kitty cats we end up with.
Here are some pictures from last week’s TICA cat show! The big orange one at the end was from DeGoonacoon. She has a 2.5 year old just like him up for adoption but we needed to feed him a raw diet per the breeder’s request. Not sure if we can handle that. The big brown tabby with white one is 10 month old 15 lb Mr. Kite from coonskin. The little brown kitten was a 4 month old female from LA Purr Department. We were in talks with LAPD but we fell in love with Mr. Kite. We’ll have to wait until October for his babies! On a side note, DeGoonacoon told us their kittens should arrive anytime now this week, but we haven’t had any replies from the breeders via email since the show.
Since we were cat deprived, I started looking for maine coon webcams, much like the Shiba Inu Puppy cams back in the day. Well I found one in the Netherlands of all places, set up by a great lady named Anneke at Vaskebjorn Main Coon Cattery. Her Layla is adorable and looks just like a smaller, more feminine version of Smokey. We secretly want to kidnap her, but she is fortunate enough to be so far away hehehehe. One of her other ladies, Rumba, just gave birth two months ago, and now we stalk her and her five kittens daily:
We also love Pucca who acts like their godmother, and Layla’s mom, Femme, or ‘grandma,’ because she likes to pile in with the kittens and pretend to be mother. I hope our future kitties will love each other like that. Smokey would have been so happy if Kitty would only show him a sign of affection once.
